Bengaluru, Aug 8: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Thursday paid homage to former Chief Minister S Nijalingappa and warmly applauded his principals and ideals, which are an inspiration even now.

“Nijalingappa as the State’s Chief Minister laid the foundation for the development of modern Karnataka, who had also served the Congress party as its President,” he said while speaking to media persons after garlanding Nijalingappa’s statue in front of Vidhana Soudha to mark his death anniversary.

Siddaramaiah said Nijalingappa had contributed a lot with his selfless service to the building of Kannada Nadu, especially by undertaking several irrigation projects.

The Chief Minister said the Narendra Modi government’s introduction of the amendment bill to the Wakf Board, which seeks to take control of all Wakf properties and administer them through a government appointed body in which non-Muslims and women will also be members, was totally against the interests of the minority community.

The intention of the NDA regime under Modi’s leadership proves that BJP and NDA are totally against the minorities and also their opposition to secular and social justice principles, he said.

Earlier, Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister and Janaseva Party leader Pawan Kalyan at his official residence of Cauvery and held cordial discussions.
