Kundapur, Aug 10: In a severe accident on Saturday, August 10 in the morning, a private AKMS bus travelling from Byndoor to Kundapura collided with a lorry near the Tallur tourist spot. The impact caused extensive damage to both the rear of the bus and the front of the lorry.
The collision resulted in serious injuries to Prasad, a student of Venkataramana English Medium School, who has been admitted to Manipal Hospital.
Several other students from the same school, including Shreyas Poojari, Deepashree, Tanush, Preetam, and Kota Ashrita, as well as nursing college students Ashmita and Ashwini, sustained minor injuries. They are currently receiving treatment at a private hospital in Kundapura.
Witnesses say that the bus had stopped at a petrol bunk near Tallur on NH 66 to pick up a passenger. As the passenger boarded, the driver resumed driving without warning.
Meanwhile, the lorry, despite the driver’s attempts to brake, crashed into the rear of the bus.
The Kundapura Traffic Police have filed a case and are investigating the circumstances leading to the accident.
