Udupi, Aug 12: The collapse of the connecting road between MGM-Chakratheertha-Doddanagudde has caused significant disruption for commuters over the past 15 days. The collapse also severed access to Sagri School, further inconveniencing thousands of residents. The minor bridge over the rainwater canal on the Sagri School connecting road has collapsed, restricting the movement of vehicles.
The collapsed bridge served as a vital shortcut for people in Indrali, MGM, Parampalli, Sagri, Manipal, Laxmindranagara, Doddanagudde, and Ambagilu. With the bridge out of service, only two-wheelers can pass through, forcing cars and auto-rickshaws to take longer routes to reach Sagri School.
Municipal Commissioner Rayappa stated, "A study on the condition of minor bridges built years ago over storm-water drains is underway, with a report expected within 15 days. A proposal will be made to construct new bridges where needed. The collapsed bridge near Chakratheertha will be rebuilt at a cost of Rs 13.5 lac."
