Mangaluru: Institute of Management & Commerce, Srinivas University students visit 'Sevashrama'

Media Release

Mangaluru, Aug 12: The NSS Unit of the BBA Department at the Institute of Management and Commerce, Srinivas University, organized a heartwarming visit to the Elderly Destitutes' Home, Sevashrama, Deralakatte, on August 10.

This visit was a part of the NSS's ongoing community engagement initiatives, aimed at fostering empathy and understanding among students toward the elderly. The event brought together approximately 45 participants, including students from BBA (Hospital Administration) and faculty members, who spent quality time with the residents of the old age home.

The visit started with students engaging in meaningful conversations with the elderly residents. This interaction allowed the students to listen to the life stories and experiences of the residents, fostering a deep connection. The students gained valuable insights into the challenges faced by the elderly, and the residents appreciated the opportunity to share their memories and wisdom. To bring joy and laughter to the day, the students organized a series of games for the residents. Simple yet entertaining activities such as passing the ball, musical chairs, and memory games were conducted.

These games were met with enthusiasm, as both the students and the elderly participated with great energy and excitement. The playful atmosphere helped bridge the generation gap and created a lively environment. The students also performed a series of songs, which were well-received by the residents. Some of the residents even joined in, singing along and clapping to the rhythm, which created a touching and unforgettable experience for everyone involved.

During the visit to Sevashrama, the students also took the opportunity to give back to the community by donating essential grocery items. The donation included a variety of everyday necessities that would help support the residents' daily needs.

The event was organized under the guidance of Dr Venkatesh S Amin, dean, Prof Shilpa K, HoD of BBA, Prof Shwetha N S, course co-ordinator of BBA, Prof Bharathi and Prof S Seethalaxmi, NSS co-ordinator.
