Udupi, Aug 12: Kavita Trust and Niranthar Udyavar jointly organized "Kavita Dhonu," a unique literary event focused on Konkani poetry, at St Vincent Pallotti Convent, Udyavar, on Sunday, August 11.

Inaugurating the event, Fr Anil D'Souza, parish priest of St Francis Xavier Church, Udyavar, said, "Every individual has poetry within them, but not everyone can express it in writing or words. It requires proper guidance and practice. Organizations like Kavita Trust and Niranthar Udyavar are instrumental in bringing out these inner feelings through poetry, drama, and other literary platforms."

In his introductory speech, Melwyn Rodrigues, founder of Kavita Trust, remarked, "Kavita Trust is continuously engaged in the mission of spreading the fragrance of poetry. We encourage the younger generation to write and appreciate poetry through various activities. Two years ago, we organized a poetry-related event at Udyavar, which was a huge success. Now, in association with Niranthar Udyavar, we have returned with 'Kavita Dhonu,' an event purely dedicated to Konkani poetry and its dialogues."

Andrew L D’Cunha, a noted Konkani poet, discussed the technical and structural aspects of poetry in his session 'Kavita Gazali.' He said, "Poetry can be compared to love letters, where a poet expresses feelings through images, similes, and carefully chosen words. It is a powerful medium for speaking out loudly and often sarcastically. Poetry has the ability to touch readers' hearts and raise awareness of societal issues. While some poems may be difficult to grasp due to their imagery, they nonetheless leave a strong impact on the subjects and issues they address, revealing the fire within the poet and their response to society."

Renowned writer and critic H M Pernal moderated a brief debate. John Mariyabhumi, Judith Fernandes, and Rithesh D’Souza shared their views on Konkani literature and its future. Catherine Rodrigues, Pius James Karugalnade, Valerian Mendonca Pitrodi, Jitha Gonsalves, Prakash Rodrigues, Felcy Lobo Derebail, and Ninisha Montiero presented their poems.

In celebration of Niranthar Udyavar's six-year anniversary, supporters and well-wishers were felicitated by Stevan Coloso, former president of Niranthar.

Roshan Crasto, president of Niranthar Udyavar, welcomed the dignitaries and attendees. Michael D'Souza proposed a vote of thanks, and Stany Bela served as the event's emcee.
