Mangaluru: St Aloysius inaugurates 'Kalothsava 2024'

Mangaluru, Aug 13: The student engagement cell of St Aloysius College (Autonomous) organised ‘Kalothsava 2024’ on August 12 at Fr LF Rasquinha Hall, LCRI block. Dr Mohan Alva, chairman, Alva’s Education Foundation (R), was the chief guest. Dr Praveen Martis SJ, VC of St Aloysius (deemed to be university) presided over the programme.

Dr Alwyn D’Sa, registrar of St Aloysius College (Autonomous), Dr Ronald Nazareth, registrar of the university, Fr Francis Xavier Gomes, former principal of St Philomena College, Puttur, dean of student engagement cell, Naveen Mascarenhas, Ashitha Jane Pinto convenor of the programme, Vance Rion D’Souza, president of student council and Advika Shetty, cultural secretary were on the dais.

Through his words, Dr Mohan Alva encouraged students to participate in art activities and made them understand the difference between entertainment and art. He told that the improvement of a nation is possible only through art. He conveyed the message that there is only one religion in the world that is ‘human religion’ and spoke on the values of religion and society. He briefed about Ekebana – the flower arranging art of Japanese and explained how the Japanese convey messages to each other in their daily life through Ekebana. Besides this, he told the students to develop a consciousness for aesthetics.

Dr Praveen Martis SJ in his speech said that St Aloysius College is giving a lot of encouragement to its students to nurture their talents. He urged the students to take advantage of it.

The dean of student engagement cell, Naveen Mascarenhas welcomed the gathering and briefed the audience on kalothsava 2024. He said that the purpose of this programme is to identity the students’ talents and nurture them into the respective fields by experts. St Aloysius has a number of talented students in different areas like drama, skit, singing, dancing, acting, quiz, etc. and the college is highly supportive giving opportunities to showcase their talents in and outside the college. He also encouraged the students and said that they must develop their personality and become true Aloysians.

Directors of various blocks of the college, deans and the faculty members were present during the programme.

Rishaan compered the programme. Advika Shetty, cultural activities secretary introduced the chief guest. The programme coordinator Ashitha Jane Pinto proposed the vote of thanks.

The programme ended with a colourful cultural programme by the students of the university.
