Mangaluru, Aug 14: St Agnes School (CBSE) celebrated Grandparents Day on August 13 at School Auditorium, paying tribute to the indispensable role that grandparents play in the lives of children.

The event began with a gracious welcome, during which grandparents were honoured with considerate gestures and accompanied to the venue. The resource person was symbolically greeted with a basket of nutritious food items as a token of appreciation for her dedication and the positive impact she has on people’s lives.

The programme started with an elegant prayer service and a graceful prayer dance, creating a serene atmosphere for the celebration. The students delighted the audience with an action song and dance, bringing smiles all around, followed by a poignant skit that underscored the deep significance of grandparents. A retro dance performance added a nostalgic flair, evoking fond memories. Teacher Shobha organized a series of engaging games, with prizes awarded to the winners, which further enriched the joyful atmosphere.

Dr Vimala Colaco, the chief guest and associate professor at the department of neurology, Father Muller's Medical College, conducted a session on health and wellness. She highlighted the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle, balanced diet, and staying active through enjoyable activities. She also emphasized that early detection and treatment of conditions such as dementia and Parkinson's disease can significantly mitigate their impact, preventing complications. Dr Colaco conveyed her appreciation to the principal and staff for extending the invitation and praised both the students and teachers for delivering an engaging programme.

The grandparents expressed their joy and appreciation for the memorable celebration. The event was skilfully hosted by the students Andrea Vianna Tauro and Meghan Lourdes Viegas with teacher Josephine Ignetto providing a warm welcome and introduction to the chief guest.

Teacher Pramila D’Souza offered a heartfelt vote of thanks, recognizing the enthusiastic participation of the grandparents. The event concluded with a token of appreciation presented to the grandparents, and a group photo that captured the day's most cherished moments.

The programme was witnessed by the dignitaries such as Dr Sr Maria Roopa AC the joint secretary of St Agnes Institutions, Sr Maria Sarika AC, the principal, Sr Letitia AC, coordinator, St Agnes Preparatory School, Sr Meena Fernandes AC, the vice principal, Liston D’Souza, the PTA vice president, PTA executive committee members and parents.
