Beltangady, Aug 15: The 78th Independence Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm at St Francis Xavier Church, Indabettu.
Chief guest of the day, Retd Prof Rajan V N hoisted the tricolour, with the guest and parishioners saluting the National Flag in unison.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Rajan paid tribute to all the freedom fighters and the martyrs who have lost life safeguarding the nation. He urged everyone to be patriotic, stand by the country, do the jobs sincerely thereby helping in building the nation.
Fr Stany Monteiro, parish priest, Vincent D’Souza, parish council vice president, William D’Souza, parish council secretary, Fredrick Rodrigues, coordinator were among the dignitaries present.
Ivan D’Souza compered the programme and introduced the guest. ICYM president Avinash D’Souza welcomed the gathering and secretary Denita proposed a vote of thanks.
