Udupi, Aug 12:-The Scouts and Guides of Don Bosco English Medium school Shirva participated in an engaging and educational activity titled "A Day in a Paddy Field." This event was organized to provide students with first hand experience of agricultural practices, emphasizing the importance of paddy cultivation in our country.

The day began with a formal stage program held at the garden of Vijay Dheeraj. The chief guest was Lion Umesh Kulal, the president of Lions club Bantakal who highlighted the significance of understanding traditional farming methods in the modern world. Principal Fr Rolwyn Joy Aranha has emphasized the role of agriculture in sustaining livelihoods and the importance of connecting with nature. Correspondent of the school Dr Leslie D'souza addressed the students and shared insights on the rich history of paddy cultivation in their region.

The programme also included 'Journey to the paddy field.' After the stage program, the students, accompanied by teachers, headed to the nearby paddy field. The activities began with explanation and demonstration by the agriculturist, a businessman Vijay Dheeraj and members of Lions Club Bantakal. Students observed how the fields are prepared for planting and learned about the different tools used in the process. They also had the opportunity to try their hand at plowing, which many found both challenging and fun. They carefully planted the seedlings in the wet, muddy fields. This activity gave them a deeper appreciation of the labor-intensive process involved in paddy cultivation.
