Mangaluru, Aug 15: The 78th Independence Day was celebrated at Expert PU College, Valachil, with great enthusiasm and patriotism. Brigadier I N Rai, a proud war veteran, was the chief guest and hoisted the national flag at the Time Square in the campus, inaugurating the programme.
In his address, Brigadier Rai expressed his pride in hoisting the flag, which he said always fluttered in his heart. He shared his experiences of serving in the army and urged the audience to reflect on the sacrifices made for the country's freedom. He also inspired the students with his recollections of war.
Prof Narendra L Nayak, chairman, Expert Group of Institutions, emphasised the importance of remembering those who sacrificed their lives for the country and understanding the value of freedom.
Dr Ushaprabha N Nayak, vice-chairperson, administered the oath to the newly elected members of the student parliament. She stressed that freedom brings great responsibilities and encouraged the students to become responsible citizens to make the country a developed one.
The cultural programme included patriotic songs, dance, and a human pyramid formation by students.
Dr N K Vijayan Karippal, principal, welcomed the gathering. Other dignitaries present included Ankush N Nayak, director, Information Technology, Expert Group of Institutions, Subramanya Udupa, vice-principal (Academics), Raghavendra Shenoy, vice-principal (Admin), and Vidyasharada, programme director.
Sambram Vernekar, president, Student Parliament, proposed the vote of thanks.
