Mangaluru, Aug 15: The Anti-Ragging Cell and NSS Unit of YIASCM jointly commenced the observation and celebration of 'Anti-Ragging Week' on August 12 at the Kulur Campus.

The 'me-Ragging Day' program began with an inauguration session. Manoj Kumar Naik, ACP of Mangaluru North sub-division, inaugurated the programme, and Sridhar Yenmakaje, an advocate from Mangaluru, delivered a guest talk on anti-ragging awareness. Vice-Principal Dr Jeevan Raj, Narayana Sukumara A, anti-ragging nodal officer Midhun Raj K, Mervin Jaison Vas, Dr Reject Paul, Niyas P, and Shahid also attended the session.

After the inaugural programme, all dignitaries joined in the anti-ragging signature campaign. Final-year and second-year B.Com and BA students actively participated in the programme.

As part of observance of 'Anti-Ragging Week', the NSS Units 7 & 14, in collaboration with the Anti-Ragging Cell, a short film titled "Voices Unheard - The Real Cost of Ragging" was telecast in both Kulur and Balmata campus to raise awareness on consequences of ragging and substance abuse.

Yenepoya Institute of Arts, Science, Commerce, and Management (YIASCM) marked 'Anti-Ragging Week' on August 14, with a comprehensive programme designed to raise awareness about the dangers of ragging and promote a safe, supportive campus environment.

The event commenced with the screening of a short anti-ragging film produced by NSS students, which effectively highlighted the severe consequences of ragging and the importance of fostering a positive atmosphere within educational institutions.

Dr Majijose, student affairs officer at Yenepoya (Deemed to be University), was as the chief guest. In her compelling address, she stressed the need for strict anti-ragging measures and shared real-life examples to illustrate the long-term negative impacts of ragging on both victims and perpetrators. She also emphasised the importance of cultivating respect and empathy among students to prevent such behaviour.

The programme opened with a solemn prayer led by Saleeth, a second-year B Com student. Dr Arun A Bhagwath, principal and dean of Science at YIASCM, then addressed the gathering, highlighting the institute’s various awareness initiatives. He reaffirmed YIASCM’s commitment to anti-ragging efforts and emphasised the crucial role these initiatives play in maintaining a safe educational environment.

Several dignitaries attended the event, including Dr Shareena P, vice-principal and dean of Commerce and Management, and vice principals Dr Jeevan Raj and Narayana A Sukumar, underscoring the significance of the occasion.

The programme was expertly anchored by Sheethal Nayak, NSS program officer, ensuring a smooth flow of events. The welcome speech was delivered by Jyothi, Red Cross programme officer.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Midhun Raj, Anti-Ragging Cell programme coordinator, who expressed gratitude to everyone involved in making the event a success. To further reinforce the anti-ragging message, Youth Red Cross students performed a skit that vividly depicted the harmful effects of ragging.

Overall, the 'Anti-Ragging Week' celebration at YIASCM was highly successful in raising awareness among students and faculty about the importance of creating and maintaining a positive and inclusive campus environment.
