Kasargod, Aug 15: Fr Kudilil Mathew, the parish priest of Infant Jesus Church in Mulleria, Kasargod, tragically passed away due to electrocution on Thursday, August 15 evening.

The shocking incident occurred at the end of the Independence Day celebration in the church premises when the flagpole collapsed while the national tricolour was being folded. The flagpole fell onto a live wire from a nearby electric pole, resulting in Fr Mathew being electrocuted. He died on the spot.

A regent accompanying him was seriously injured by the electric shock and has been shifted to Father Muller Hospital in Mangaluru for treatment.

Fr Kudilil Mathew was well-known among the faithful for his philanthropy, empathetic nature, and exceptional preaching skills.

Verysad and tragic incident. May his soul rest in eternal peace. Reading the article, it look like high tenson (11KV) caused the death. Don't know whom to blame. Question, is the flag hosting pole was more than 32 Feet height. Asper rule, HT (11 KV) overhead line shall be minimum at the height of 32feet from ground.

A young priest losing life all of a sudden. Very sad that too while relocating the national flag on independence day. May God have mercy on him and grant him eternal peace. His ever smiling innocent face will be a mockery to the system. Heart felt condolences to his family members & friends. May our Lord Jesus grant him a place in heaven.
