Udupi, Aug 16: Lords International School celebrated India’s 78th Independence Day with great zeal and vigour on August 15. The school campus was beautifully decorated highlighting the tricolour.
Pramod Madhwaraj, former minister of state for Fisheries, Youth Empowerment and Sports was the chief guest at the function. Along with him, the president, Bhuvanendra Kidiyoor, treasurer Dr Bhavyashree B Kidiyoor and trustee Dr Abhin D Shriyan also graced the occasion.
The celebrations commenced with a prayer song followed by the principal Myrtle L F Lewis welcoming the esteemed dignitaries with a bouquet. The teaching and non-teaching staff, students and parents were also warmly welcomed.
The school squad accompanied the dignitaries towards the flag post. As the chief guest Pramod Madhwaraj hoisted the National Flag, all those present on the campus saluted the flag with reverence and sang the National Anthem followed by Dhwaj Geet. The entire campus was filled with feelings of pride and love for the nation. The march past showcased the discipline and focus of the students where they marched together as a team.
The chief guest, in his address to the gathering, said, "Even if you have to walk 1000 miles, you have to start with a very small step. The children of today are the leaders of tomorrow. The teachers have a greater responsibility in keeping up quality so that this school makes a great mark not only in Udupi district but in the entire State. We are enjoying the fruits of Independence due to the great sacrifices of our ancestors and freedom fighters. The only solution to have a developed country is the best education which should be given to the children so that they become assets of tomorrow. If children become assets of tomorrow, the country becomes a developed country." He prayed for God’s blessings on the institution so that it gains in strength by making a great contribution in the field of education . He foresees the school to be one of the most reputed schools in the district.

The students participated and performed in several competitions held at school such as Fancy Dress, Patriotic Song singing, Colouring .The winners were awarded with prizes by the president. A small cultural programme was showcased by the students expressing their patriotism.
Trinay of Grade 6 compered the program while Pallavi proposed a vote of thanks.
