Mumbai (RBI), Aug 16: The Santacruz Kannada Sangha celebrated the 78th Independence Day of the nation last Thursday, August 15, morning at the Sangha's office, under the leadership of the Sangha's president, Sujata R Shetty.
The event was attended by members of the Sangha, neighboring citizens, and children. Sujata Shetty, the president of the Sangha, hoisted the national flag. The members paid their respects to the flag and expressed their patriotism by singing the national anthem.
In her presidential address, Sujata Shetty extended her best wishes to the citizens present and paid homage to the great personalities who fought for freedom 78 years ago. She also prayed that Bharat Mata gives strength to the soldiers who are always protecting the country at the borders. She expressed her hope that India will become the world's foremost nation and that its people will be truly free.
Honorary president of the Sangha, LV Amin, spoke on the occasion, recalling that India gained independence in 1947, and now, they were celebrating the 78th Independence Day. He reminded the audience of Subhash Chandra Bose's famous words during the freedom movement: "Give me blood, and I will give you freedom." Amin also noted that since Prime Minister Narendra Modi took office, the country has witnessed comprehensive development and has become the world's 5th largest economic power. He emphasized that India is already a global leader.
The event was also attended by honorary treasurer Sudhakar Uchill, joint treasurer Bannanje Ravindra Amin, executive committee members Vijaykumar K Kotyan, Shakeela P Shetty, Lingappa B Amin, Suma M Poojary, Sumitra J Devadiga, Girish Shetty, Rekha Shetty, Mahabala Poojary, and children of the Sangha members. Honorary general secretary Jaya Poojary welcomed the gathering and delivered the vote of thanks.
