Udupi, Aug 17: In a significant development, Karnataka Governor has granted permission to prosecute chief minister (CM) Siddaramaiah in connection with the MUDA (Mysuru Urban Development Authority) scandal. Following this decision, MLA Sunil Kumar has called for the immediate resignation of CM Siddaramaiah, citing moral responsibility.
Sunil Kumar asserted that the CM should not remain in office until the investigation is completed. He also criticized the Congress leaders for their selective stance towards the Governor, stating that they praise the Governor when it suits them but criticize him when he acts against their interests.
The scandal came to light after three private individuals lodged complaints related to the MUDA affairs. However, it has been clarified that the BJP did not file any complaint against the Governor. Despite the Governor seeking clarification from the state government, no response was provided, which has led to accusations of arrogance on the part of the state government and Siddaramaiah.
Sunil Kumar emphasized that Karnataka has a tradition of respectful politics, and urged Siddaramaiah to face the investigation without clinging to his position. He stated that the CM should step down until his name is cleared of the allegations.
The Congress party has been criticized for questioning the Governor's decision, with Sunil Kumar warning that if Siddaramaiah does not resign by tomorrow, the BJP will intensify its protests. He also reminded the public that this is not the first time the Governor has granted prosecution approval against Siddaramaiah, recalling the Lokayukta's removal and the establishment of the ACB under his tenure.
Sunil Kumar warned of serious consequences if the resignation is delayed.
