Kundapur, Aug 17: A thief broke into the Sri Laxminarayana Temple at Hemmadi and made off with Rs 40,000 in cash.

The temple, which was recently renovated at a cost of Rs 7 crore, was targeted by the thief who entered the verandah by removing the latch of the door. Shockingly, the intruder was seen on CCTV footage bowing to the idol with footwear on before stealing the cash.

The stolen money had been collected from devotees during the monthly Satyanarayana Pooja. The thief broke open the offertory box and quickly fled the scene.

The entire incident was captured on the temple’s CCTV cameras.
