Udupi, Aug 17: The department of student affairs at MAHE Manipal organised a heartfelt event to mark 'Partition Horrors Remembrance Day'.

The event was led by Dr H S Ballal, pro-chancellor of MAHE, who spoke about the importance of remembering the tragic events of the partition. Lt Gen (Dr) M D Venkatesh, vice-chancellor of MAHE, served as the chief guest and reflected on how the partition impacted the nation’s history. Col Vijay Bhaskar Reddy, head of campus safety, was the guest of honour and highlighted the need to ensure that such horrors are never repeated.

A special partition horrors remembrance exhibition was inaugurated during the event by the dignitaries. The exhibition featured powerful displays depicting the struggles and suffering experienced during the partition, serving as a strong reminder of the resilience of those affected.

The event was attended by many students, faculty members, and staff from various institutions of MAHE, showing widespread interest in this important remembrance.

The event began with a welcome by Dr Geetha Maiya, director of student affairs, and was smoothly conducted by Siya Saigal, a 3rd-year BBA student from the department of commerce, who served as the master of ceremonies.

Cultural performances by members of the Kalakriya club from MIT, supported by the student support team of MAHE, added an emotional touch to the occasion.

The vote of thanks was delivered by Dr Aravind Kumar Pandey. The event also saw the presence of pro-vice chancellors, the registrar, directors, and faculty coordinators of MAHE, all of whom showed their solidarity with the cause of remembrance.

The Partition Horrors Remembrance Day at MAHE Manipal emphasised the importance of remembering history to prevent future tragedies. The event united the community in honoring the resilience of those affected by the partition.
