Mangaluru, Aug 19: Coastal Karnataka has produced many successful talents in the Kannada film industry, and now, another team is set to make its mark with the movie ‘Kalchiga’. The trailer of this intriguing film, which has already piqued curiosity with its unique title, was released at Bharat Cinemas in Bharath Mall, Mangaluru, in the presence of several eminent personalities.
Kalchiga is produced under the banner of Himani Films and directed by Suman Suvarna, with Sharath Kumar V K as the producer.
The trailer launch event was graced by MLAs Vedavyas Kamath and Ashok Rai, former minister Ramanath Rai, and other notable figures such as Devadas Kapikad, Vijayakumar Kodialbail, Gopinath Bhat, Manasi Sudhir, Arjun Kapikad, Prasad Shetty, Sachin Shetty, Munir Katipalla, Jyotish Shetty, Roopa Varkady, producer Sharath Kumar, and director Suman Suvarna.
On this occasion, Daiva Nartakas Mayila Kutharu, Raghava Kutharu, and folk singer Kutharu Timmakka were felicitated by the movie team.
Kalchiga marks the return of the legendary Hamsalekha to music direction, who has also penned the lyrics for the film. Suman Suvarna, who previously worked on films like Girgit, Circus, and Gamchal, makes his debut as an independent director with this movie.
The film stars Arjun Kapikad, the ‘King of Action’ from Coastalwood, in the lead role, with Sushimta Bhat playing the female lead. The supporting cast includes Gopinath Bhat, Jyotish Shetty, Manasi Sudhir, Vijay Shobharaj Pavoor, and Shlaga Saligrama.
The essence of Kalchiga remains a closely guarded secret by the movie team, but it promises to explore the consequences of injustice on Dharma. The film, produced by Sharath Kumar A K, owner of S K Marketing Group, was shot on location in and around Mangaluru and is crafted in the Kannada-speaking style unique to the region.
Hamsalekha has composed the music and written the lyrics for the movie, while Prasad K. Shetty provided the background score. Cinematography was handled by Hamsalekha, and Sanil Guru of Kantara fame served as the creative head. Radhakrishna Manila is the executive producer, and Sandeep Shetty is the production manager.
Kalchiga is scheduled to be released across Karnataka on September 13.
