Dhaka, Nov 13 (IANS): Over 50 people were injured in a clash that erupted over a game of carrom in Bangladesh Saturday night, police said Sunday.
During the three-hour clash at Kathibazar in Gopalganj town, 680 km from Dhaka, at least 20 shops and a number of vehicles, including a police car, were vandalised, the Daily Star reported.
Police fired rubber bullets and tear gas shells to bring the situation under control.
A total of 34 people have been arrested in connection with the clash.
Police said the two groups were locked in a brawl while playing carrom. Supporters of the local union chairman, and the former chairman took sides of the two groups. Some of them called other supporters through loudspeakers of the local mosque to take part in the clash.
