Media Release

Mangaluru, Aug 19: A comprehensive lectors training programme was organized for current and aspiring lectors under the leadership of Fr Walter D'Souza, parish priest at St Sebastian Church, Bendore. The session, held on August 18 aimed to enhance the skills and effectiveness of lectors in proclaiming the word of God during Mass.

The programme commenced with the solemn procession and installation of the bible in front of the altar, followed by a short prayer service. Fr Boniface Pinto, the resource person for the event, delivered an insightful session focused on the importance of meaningful proclamation of the word of God.

During his address, Fr Boniface emphasized the key aspects of effective proclamation, including the approach to the altar, proper microphone adjustment, maintaining eye contact, voice modulation, and adhering to the appropriate dress code for Mass. He stressed that both practice and prayer are essential for lectors to deliver the word of God with clarity and conviction.

The session was well-received, with approximately 300 parishioners in attendance. Participants gained valuable insights into how a skilled lector can significantly enhance the congregation's understanding of the word of God and improve overall participation in the Mass.

The training programme concluded with attendees expressing their gratitude to Fr Walter D'Souza for organizing the event. The participants left with a deeper understanding of their role as lectors and the impact they can have on the spiritual life of the parish community.

This programme was a collaborative effort, jointly organized by the liturgical commission, catechism and bible commission, proclamations and evangelization commission, and the small Christian community commission of the parish.
