Beltangady: Netravati river overflows in Didupe, Mittabagilu; residents relocated to safer areas

Beltangady, Aug 20: A flood scare gripped Didupe, Mittabagilu, Arbee Falls, and Kadmagundi after heavy rains lashed the area for an hour on Monday, causing the Netravati river's water level to surge to dangerous levels.

Locals reported that the water level exceeded that of the 2019 flood. However, the situation did not escalate further as a large amount of water did not flow from the river's origin.

The road between Didupe and Malla was severed by the force of the water. Shashidhara's farmland at Barkalottu Banadabagilu was inundated, and water entered the house of Birmanottu Rajappa Gowda. The retaining wall of the Didupe panchayat building developed cracks, and water also entered the house of Ramesh Gowda.

A road drain collapsed at Kolli-Kalbettu Panical, disrupting traffic in the area. The inflow of the Netravati River increased at Ermal Palke.

Residents of Ganesha Nagara in Didupe were relocated due to the risk of their homes being submerged. The river overflowed primarily due to rains in the Western Ghats, while Beltangady, Ujire, and Dharmasthala remained dry.
