Mangaluru, Aug 20: St Aloysius Pre-University College, through its dynamic student organizations and committed faculty, recently demonstrated a profound act of compassion by organizing a comprehensive relief drive to aid the victims of the devastating Wayanad landslide. This initiative was a collaborative effort spearheaded by the Eco Club, Centre for Social Concern, Campus Ministry, and Centre for Environmental Concern, all of which are integral parts of the college’s vibrant community dedicated to social responsibility and environmental stewardship.
In the wake of the landslide, which left many families displaced and struggling, the college community swiftly mobilized to offer assistance. Students, parents, and faculty members alike were encouraged to contribute voluntarily, reflecting the deep-rooted culture of empathy and solidarity that St Aloysius PU College fosters.
The relief drive was met with an extraordinary outpouring of support, resulting in the collection of an impressive 300 cartons filled with essential items such as groceries, toiletries, clothing, bedsheets, blankets, and curtains and 100 rice bags alongside significant monetary contributions. These donations were meticulously sorted, packed, and prepared for distribution under the guidance of principal Fr Clifford Sequeira SJ and a dedicated team of coordinators, including Nimmy Alex, Roopa S, Blanet Paul, Dexter Joachim Saldanha, and Shwetha V R. Their unwavering commitment ensured that the relief materials reached those in dire need without delay.
The collected items were dispatched to several relief camps located in Vendekkumloyil, Ambedkar, Theekkumtottam, and Chippilithod Tribal colonies in Calicut. Reji J Karot of Koodathai Bazaar played a crucial role in receiving and distributing these materials to the affected families, ensuring that the aid provided by St Aloysius College made a tangible difference in the lives of the victims.
This initiative is more than just a relief drive; it is a testament to the spirit of St Aloysius Pre-University College-a community that not only excels academically but also stands as a pillar of support in times of crisis. The drive underscores the college’s ongoing commitment to social justice and its mission to cultivate students who are not only intellectually capable but also morally grounded and socially conscious.
The success of this relief drive is a powerful reminder of what can be achieved when a community comes together with a shared purpose. It reflects the core values of St Aloysius PU College, where education extends beyond the classroom, inspiring students to become agents of positive change in the world around them.
