Mangaluru, Aug 24: St Aloysius (Deemed to be University) observed National Space Day on August 23 in the LCRI Hall. The day-long celebration for science students was organized by the department of physics, school of physical science. This was the first year National Space Day celebrated after the success of India's ISRO scientists' Chandrayaan Mission-3.
Several PU and undergraduate students from the DK district participated in this programme. Astro Club students of the university created awareness about astronomy with seminars, quizzes, photography competitions for undergraduate and PU science students.
Retired physics professor and amateur astronomer Ramesh Bhat, who was the chief guest, revealed the wonders of space exploration and the success of Chandrayaan-3 in detail. In his speech, he explained the achievements of India's ISRO scientists. He urged the young students to make more achievements in space science.
The registrar of the university, Dr Ronald Nazareth, through his speech informed the participants about several unique opportunities available to science students. He said that the students should move forward with the goal of achievement.
Director of Xavier Block, Dr Narayana Bhat, in his message explained the purpose of the celebration of the National Space Day and said to bind science and humanity together.
The programme was chaired by the vice chancellor of the university, Dr Praveen Martis, SJ. He, in his presidential remarks, urged the science students to dream big and achieve big things in life. He further said that, in addition to the achievements of Indian astronomers, many more young scientists are expected to contribute to India's space research programmes.
Dean of school of physical sciences of the university Dr Arun Kalkur was present in the programme. Head of physics department, Dr Ishwara Bhat briefed about the programme and welcomed the gathering. Vinay DR, lecturer physics department proposed the vote of thanks. Sharolyn compered the programme. Mekala and Team from I BSc invoked God’s blessing through nice rendition.
