Mumbai, Nov 15 (IANS): A benchmark index for Indian equities markets Tuesday closed 270 points lower taking cues from the negative European bourses.
The 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the BSE, which opened lower at 17,081.62 points, closed at 16,848.44 points (provisional), down 270.3 points or 1.58 percent from its previous close at 17,118.74 points.
The 50-scrip S&P CNX Nifty of the National Stock Exchange also fell to close 94.85 points or 1.84 percent lower at 5,053.5 points.
Broader markets also closed in the red with the BSE 500 index ending almost 2 percent down. The BSE midcap index closed 2.64 percent lower while the BSE smallcap index ended 2.83 percent down.
