Mangaluru, Aug 29: The Mangaluru Central Crime Branch (CCB) police successfully apprehended three individuals involved in trafficking and selling the banned drug MDMA, seizing 42 grams of the substance.
Acting on a tip-off, the CCB police received information that MDMA was being transported from Bengaluru to Mangaluru in a new Maruti Baleno car for illegal sale. The police located the car near the NITK Mukka area in Suratkal, where the suspects were attempting to sell the drugs to the public. The three individuals found in the car were:
- Shajahan P M (32), resident of Keyoor House, Chandragiri Post, Kalanad, Kasargod District, Kerala.
- Mohammad Nishad (27), resident of Devaradka House, Aduru, Delampadi Post, Kasargod District, Kerala. Currently residing in Room No. 305, Sara Tower, Ejipura, Koramangala 5th Block, Bengaluru.
- Mansoor M M (27), resident near Muthappa Temple, Abbey Falls Road, Madikeri, Kodagu District. Currently residing in SLV Boys PG, 28th Main Road, 7th Cross, Maruti Nagar, BTM 1st Stage, Madiwala, Bengaluru.
The police seized 42 grams of MDMA worth Rs 2,10,000, along with 5 mobile phones, a new Maruti Baleno car, and a digital weighing scale from their possession. The total value of the seized assets is estimated to be Rs 12,18,500. A case has been registered at the Sen Crime Police Station.
The suspects had rented a new car to purchase MDMA from Bengaluru with the intention of selling it to the public and students in Karnataka and Kerala. The investigation revealed that more individuals are involved in the drug trafficking network, and efforts to apprehend them are ongoing. The accused were reportedly involved in drug sales to fund a luxurious lifestyle.
Among the arrested, Shajahan has seven cases previously registered against him for drug trafficking and consumption in various police stations, including Melparamba, Bekal, Vidyanagar, Kumble, and Kasargod in Kasargod District. Mohammad Nishad has two theft cases involving motorcycles registered against him at Puttur Town and Madikeri police stations.
The operation to uncover this drug trafficking network was led by CCB unit ACP Manoj Kumar Naik, along with police inspectors Shyam Sundar H M, PSI Narendra, and other CCB staff members.
