Heavy rain: Red alert issued in DK on Friday, Udupi on Aug 31

Mangaluru, Aug 30: The rains in Dakshina Kannada district may intensify, with the IMD issuing a red alert for August 30. Heavy rains are expected in Udupi district on August 31, prompting the IMD to announce a red alert there as well.

An orange alert has been declared for August 31, September 1, and 2. The IMD has also warned fishermen to exercise caution as wind speeds may reach 35 to 45 km per hour.

Mangaluru experienced moderate rainfall on Thursday, with cloudy weather prevailing for the rest of the day. Puttur and Sullia taluks received heavy rainfall, while parts of Bantwal saw moderate showers.

Udupi district recorded good rainfall on Thursday, with intermittent rain and wind throughout the day. Rain accompanied by thunder was observed in the evening and night. Various parts of Karkala and Kundapur received moderate rains. The maximum temperature recorded in Mangaluru was 28.4°C, while the minimum was 23°C.
