Kundapur, Aug 30: The nine-day Novena prayers leading up to the Monti Fest, also known as the Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, commenced at the St Philip Neri Church in Basrur on August 30.

The church's parish priest, Fr Roy Lobo, inaugurated the Novena with a solemn Mass and offered prayers to Mother Mary. Br Wilson Saldanha delivered the homily during the service.

The Novena prayers, which will be held for nine consecutive days, are particularly special for the involvement of young children who bring flowers to offer to Mother Mary. Hundreds of devotees participated in the religious event, marking the beginning of the celebrations for Monti Fest.
