Mangaluru, Aug 31: Shalan Pinto, daughter of the late Alexander Pinto and Lydia Irene Lobo from Yeyyadi, Mangaluru, has been selected to represent India in the 47 kg junior weight class at the upcoming Commonwealth Bench Press Championship. The prestigious event is scheduled to take place from October 4 to 13 at Sun City, South Africa.

Shalan's selection comes on the back of her impressive performances in several key competitions. She secured first place in the 47 kg junior category at the National Bench Press Championship held in Maharashtra from January 15 to January 20, 2023. She continued her strong form by claiming second place in the same category at the National Bench Press Championship 2023 held in Bengaluru from November 22 to November 26, 2023.

Most recently, Shalan earned second place in the 47 kg junior individual bench press at the National Powerlifting Championship held in Punjab from June 16 to June 21, 2024. These consistent performances have earned her the opportunity to compete on the international stage, representing India at the Commonwealth Bench Press Championship.
