Udupi, Sep 1: The IMJ Institute of Science and Commerce, Moodlakatta, hosted an engaging workshop on "Self-Defence through Karate" as part of its seventh-day initiation programme. The event, organized in collaboration with the college’s Sports Association, was aimed at equipping students with essential self-defence skills and promoting physical fitness.
The workshop featured Kiran, founder of 'Dragon Fist Martial Arts of India' in Kundapur, and his expert team. Kiran and his colleagues provided students with a comprehensive demonstration of karate techniques and self-defence strategies. The session included practical demonstrations and an in-depth discussion on the importance and benefits of karate in today's world. His speech highlighted the significance of martial arts in personal safety and overall well-being.
The workshop emphasised not only the technical aspects of karate but also the mental discipline and self-confidence it fosters. The participants were shown the proper steps to learn and practice karate, ensuring they understood the fundamental principles of self-defence. The event concluded with feedback from the students, who expressed their appreciation for the practical and insightful experience.
Jayasheel Kumar, vice-principal of the institute, welcomed the participants and introduced the workshop. Praveen Kharvi, the coordinator of the College's Sports Forum and physical education teacher, was also present, offering support and encouraging students to actively participate in the session. Ullas, second-year BBA student compered the programme.
