Udupi, Sep 6: Adarsha Charitable Trust (R), Udupi holds 'Adarsha teachers award ceremony' on the occasion of Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan’s birth anniversary at Adarsha Group of Educational Institutions Complex on September 6.

The event was organized in association with Adarsha College of Nursing, Adarsha Institute of Allied Health Sciences, Adarsha Paramedical College, Adarsha Hospital, Udupi and Department of School Education, Udupi. In the award ceremony 30 teachers from six constituencies of Udupi district were honored. The awardees included six teachers each from Byndoor, Kundapur, Karkala, Udupi Constituencies and seven from Brahmavar constituency.

The event began with traditionally lighting the lamp and offering flowers to the portrait of Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, by the guests of the day.

Kota Shrinivas Poojary, member of parliament, expressed gratitude to Dr Chandrashekar for recognizing and honoring teachers and in his inaugural note said, "The primary goal of education is to instill patriotism in students. The literacy rate in India is above 95 percent after independence, but the crime rate was low before independence when the literacy rate was only 10 percent compared to now.”

Quoting Mahatma Gandhi, Kota Srinivas Poojary warned that if individuals who are right remain silent in the face of wrongs, the nation will be at risk. He highlighted the need to focus on the type of education that fosters patriotism, stressing that it is more crucial than discussing issues of caste, community, or creed.

Gurme Suresh Shetty, MLA Kaup, stated, “Knowledge is unparalleled in this world. Japan, despite facing numerous natural disasters and challenges, stands strong due to its strong educational system. We are born in a country with a rich history. Teaching is the profession I value the most, as teachers guide and help us stand proudly in society. The knowledge we acquire paves the way to success. However, we are falling short in nurturing our children, and it is crucial to combine education with cultural values."

Sriraman Aithal, director Poorna Prajna Institute of Management, remarked, “The awardees have been entrusted with the task of developing responsible citizens for our country. Dr Chandrashekar is the most hardworking person; he works for 20 hours in a day. Every student aspires to be a role model teacher, and there are four major issues to address: shelter, clean drinking water, quality education, and quality health services. Dr ChandraShekar is focusing on improving quality education and health services. Teachers must provide equal service to all students, regardless of caste, gender, or creed. In schools, emphasis is placed on learning skills, while colleges focus on research skills. Education should integrate traditional values, national and cultural principles, and modern technology to become ideal teachers, though the concept of an ideal teacher remains largely theoretical."

Ganapathi K, deputy director School Education department, Udupi District, stated, "Awards should come to us; we should not go after them. Working without expectations is the true award. When education and health are aligned, society progresses."

G S Chandrashekar, medical director and chairman Adarsha Hospital, Udupi in his introductory note said, “From 15 years we have been conducting this award program. Health, teachers and money are important to grow the country. To build a strong nation, children should be moulded at a younger age, therefore the primary level teachers play a major role. Knowledge is a dynamic process. The relationship between teachers and students earlier cannot be seen now. Respecting teachers is crucial.”

Representatives of awardees from every constituency share their thoughts on the occasion.

Nidhi Prabhu, student was felicitated on the occasion, for representing India in Asia throw ball sport in Malaysia.

The occasion was graced with the prayer by Sheethal, a student. G S Chandrashekar, Medical director and chairman Adarsha Hospital, Udupi, welcomed the gathering. Anushree, proposed the vote of thanks and Prashanth Shetty Havanje, anchor and teacher mastered the ceremony.

MLA Udupi Yashpal Suvarna, Additional deputy commissioner Mamathadevi G S, president Alevoor Gram Panchayath Yathish Kumar, chief executive officer Adarsha Hospital Vimala Chandrashekar, principal Adarsh College of Nursing Sudhina, principal Adarsh Institute of Allied Health Science, Adarsh Paramedical College professor Ravikumar T N and others were present on the occasion.
