Udupi, Sep 6: In light of Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations, the sale of liquor has been banned in Udupi during the immersion of Ganesh idols. The decision aims to prevent potential disruptions from those under the influence of alcohol and to maintain law and order.

Invoking Rule 3 of the Karnataka Excise (Indian and Foreign Liquor) Rules, 1968, the Udupi district administration, under the authority granted by Section 21 of the Karnataka Excise Act, 1965, has imposed a ban on liquor sales. The order, issued by deputy commissioner Dr K Vidyakumari, prohibits the sale of liquor across Udupi district on September 7, and within Udupi City Municipal limits on September 9 and 11.

The ban will be effective from 6 am to midnight on these days.
