Mangaluru: St Agnes alumni celebrates Teachers' Day

Media Release

Mangaluru, Sep 11: While the students and staff of St Agnes College were gearing up to celebrate Teachers’ Day with the usual fanfare in another corner of the campus the St Agnes alumni were all excited in anticipation of their Teachers’ Day celebration the first of its kind a tribute of gratitude and celebration for the retired teaching and non-teaching staff.

The programme began with a prayer song by Asha Menezes and group. Vice president of the Alumni Association, Marjorie Texeira, then welcomed the august gathering praising them and thanking them for their years of service to the college and for enriching their students’ lives. This was followed by a poetic tribute by Delsy D'Souza.

Keeping the programme informal, Joan Lobo and Marissa Noronha kept the crowd engaged with lively and entertaining games which were thoroughly enjoyed by all. This was rounded off with a delightful game of housie conducted by Renny Correa.

The excitement and joy as staff met staff and alumni met their old teachers was truly heartwarming. Photos taken with the teachers were promptly shared on social media and the joy from that hall was echoed all around the world as alumni were thrilled to see those familiar faces from their college days. The day ended with a scrumptious lunch and each of the staff went home with a takeaway gift sponsored by Nayana Fernandes. Patra Saldanha compered the programme.

On behalf of the staff, Sr Supriya AC, retired HOD of the commerce department and former principal of the college, thanked the alumni for this unique and loving celebration for the 'first time in the history of the college'. Everyone went home with their hearts full that day both staff and alumni grateful for the special time that brought back beautiful memories from the past. This nostalgic day was all thanks to the brainwave of the dynamic VP Marjorie Texeira.
