CCBI releases timely book titled ‘Aggiornamento in Canon Law: Theory and Praxis’

Bengaluru, Sep 11: The commission for canon law and other legislative texts of the Conference of Catholic Bishops of India (CCBI) has released a timely book on September 10, titled “Aggiornamento in canon law: theory and praxis.” The book, edited by Prof Merlin Rengith Ambrose, the executive secretary of the commission for canon law, under the guidance of Dr Antonysamy Savarimuthu, chairman of the commission, offers a wealth of knowledge for canonists worldwide.

Released during the 95th executive committee meeting of the CCBI, the book features contributions from eminent bishops, Vatican officials, and renowned university professors from across the globe. His Eminence Filipe Neri Cardinal Ferrão, president of the CCBI, commended the book, stating that it is an invaluable resource for canonists, providing insights into recent canonical amendments and their practical application.

Dr Antonysamy Savarimuthu emphasised the book’s significance in guiding canon lawyers, particularly in addressing cases reserved to the Dicastery for the doctrine of the faith. He noted that the book would facilitate a deeper understanding of canonical provisions and their proper juridical implementation. Juan Ignacio Arrieta, secretary of the Dicastery for the legislative texts, Vatican, blurbed that the book is an invaluable and timely resource for canonists, highlighting the book’s contribution to updated juridical interpretations of recently modified canonical provisions, which reflect the Pope’s mind.

The first copies of the book were received by the Cardinals His Eminence Oswald Gracias and His Eminence Antony Poola, George Antonysamy, the vice-president, Anil Cuoto, the secretary general and Dr Stephen Alathara, the deputy secretary general, other office-bearers of the CCBI, and archbishops from across India. Published by the CCBI and distributed by ATC Publications, the book consists of 252 pages. The commission for canon law and other legislative texts is to be commended for this timely contribution to the field of canon law.
