Udupi: Trinity Central School organizes clean-up drive at KSRTC old bus stop

Udupi, Sep 12: As part of the 'Swachhata Pakhwada' initiative, Trinity Central School, Perampalli organized a clean-up drive at the old KSRTC bus stop in Udupi on September 12.

The event saw enthusiastic participation from students, parents, teachers and City Municipality Council (CMC) members.

As part of the event the bus stop, surrounding areas were cleaned. The CMC held the drive by making arrangements for the water and vehicle for transporting collected waste to the dumping yard. The students cleaned the bus stop floor with water and soap liquid.

Prabhakar Poojary, president of the city municipal council, expressed his appreciation for the students' involvement. “The students of Trinity School demonstrated great commitment by coming out to clean the Udupi bus stop. It is vital for such programmes to start with us, and by making children aware of the importance of a clean environment at a young age, we can advance the goals of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. The CMC is committed to supporting the school in such activities.”

Rayappa, commissioner of the CMC, emphasized the collective responsibility of maintaining cleanliness. “It is our duty to manage waste properly, whether at home or in shops, and to avoid littering. If everyone treats Udupi as their own and keeps it clean, we can achieve better sanitation. I urge everyone to carry cloth bags while shopping to reduce plastic waste.”

Fr Dominic Sunil Lobo, principal of Trinity Central School, highlighted the significance of the drive. “Today, we had about a hundred students, teachers, and parents come together for this clean-up. It is our responsibility to maintain and protect our surroundings. Through this drive, we aim to spread the message of environmental cleanliness and encourage participation in the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan,”

Reshma Praveen Kundar, teacher, explained the purpose of the event and said, “This clean-up drive is organized to make students aware about cleanliness. Along with keeping our house surroundings clean, maintaining a clean environment in our district is crucial. So, to make people aware about a clean environment the event has been organized.”

Gagan, a student, shared his enthusiasm for the initiative, saying, “We enjoyed cleaning the environment and spreading awareness about maintaining cleanliness. Such activities should not be limited to one day; instead, they should become part of our daily lives to ensure a cleaner environment."

Vice president of CMC Rajani Hebbar, member of CMC Vijay Kodavoor, Vice principal of Trinity Central School Fr Ravi Rajesh Serrao, teachers, students, PTA president, members and others took part in the clean-up drive.
