Mangaluru, Sep 13: The much-anticipated Kannada movie ‘Kalchiga’, produced by Sharath Kumar A K under the Himani Films banner and directed by Suman Suvarna, was released at Bharath Cinemas in Bharath Mall on Friday. The launch event began with the traditional lighting of the lamp.

Notable attendees included BJP district Yuva Morcha president Nandan Mallya, Prakash Dharmanagara, Thamma Laxmana, entrepreneur Girish Shetty Kateel, lead actor Arjun Kapikad, producer Sharath Kumar A K, director Suman Suvarna, and other dignitaries.

Coastal Karnataka has seen several artists step into the Kannada film industry, and with Kalchiga, a new team from the region joins Sandalwood. The director, Suman Suvarna, has also written the story, screenplay, and dialogues for the film.

The film marks the return of legendary music director Nadabrahma Hamsalekha, who composed the music, with Prasad K Shetty providing the background score. Kalchiga also marks Suman Suvarna’s debut as an independent director, with action star Arjun Kapikad in the lead role, alongside Sushmita Bhat as the female lead. The movie features a talented supporting cast, including Gopinath Bhat, Jyotish Shetty, Manasi Sudhir, Vijay Shobharaj Pavoor, and Shlaga Saligrama.

The film was shot in and around Mangaluru and Udupi, and it will be released in over 50 theatres across Karnataka, including Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Bengaluru, Mysuru, Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru, Hassan, Madikeri, Hubballi, Dharwad, Davanagere, as well as in Mumbai and Gulf countries.

The trailer for Kalchiga has already garnered over 1.4 million views on YouTube. The film, produced in the distinct Mangaluru-style Kannada, explores the consequences of evil in the pursuit of goodness.

Cinematography for the film is by Sachin Shetty, with editing by Yashwin K Shettigar. Sanil Guru, known for his work in Kantara, serves as the creative head, while Radhakrishna Manila is the executive producer, and Sandeep Shetty is the production manager.
