St Aloysius College Primary School Alumni Association organizes road safety awareness programme

Mangaluru, Sep 14: Road safety awareness programme was organized on September 10 in collaboration with the St Aloysius College Primary School Alumni Association.

The event was held in the school auditorium. Headmistress, Jositta Noronha warmly welcomed the gathering. Among the attendees were the correspondent, Fr Johnson Pinto SJ, circle inspector Anand E, traffic sub-inspector Raju, teachers, students, parents and members of the Alumni Association.

The traffic sub-inspector delivered a vital address on road safety. He emphasized the need to raise awareness among children regarding the importance of road safety rules, especially in today’s traffic conditions.

He shared valuable tips on following basic safety guidelines while driving vehicles, using public roads and how to avoid accidents. His talk also included practical advice on being alert while crossing roads, understanding traffic signals and the importance of using zebra crossing.

He urged the audience to avoid driving under the influence of alcohol and to refrain from using mobile phones while driving.

Following the talk, there was an interactive query session where students and teachers had the opportunity to ask questions about road safety. The sub-inspector patiently addressed their queries, reiterating that by adhering to these rules, everyone could set a positive example and contribute to a safer road environment.

Circle inspector Anand E followed with an informative talk on vehicle safety, insurance, and the documentation required for driving. He discussed the growing number of vehicles on the road and the increasing complexity of traffic. He stressed the importance of wearing helmets for two-wheeler riders and the necessity of seat belts for all vehicle occupants. Further he explained the significance of the yellow strip on roads and the critical role it plays in traffic management. He supported the request made by the Parents' Association for the construction of a speed hump in front of our school gate to enhance the safety of students during school hours.

As part of the programme, circle inspector Anand E also had the honor of distributing prizes to students. Awards were presented to the school boys and girls basketball teams, who secured first place in the district level Basketball tournament and qualified for the Mysore Division level. Additionally, medals were awarded to the school boys’ handball team, which won the runner-up trophy in the Taluk-level handball tournament held at Vidyadhayini School, Suratkal.

The event concluded with Neil Rodrigues the secretary of the Alumni Association, delivering the vote of thanks.

The Alumni Association team honored Anand E with a memento as a gesture of gratitude and appreciation.

This programme was coordinated by Alumni Association executive committee member Kevin Martis.

The resource persons, along with the school staff and students, shared a delightful mid-day meal, marking the end of a successful and educational programme.
