St Aloysius holds endowment lecture on 'Role of Education in National Development'

Mangaluru, Sep 14: St Aloysius (Deemed to be University) organised an endowment lecture on "Role of Education in National Development" on September 14 at Fr L F Rasquinha Hall, LCRI Block.

Prof Anil Sahasrabuddhe, former chairman of AICTE, chairperson of the National Education Technology Forum (NETF), chairman of EC National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) and chairman NBA was the speaker of the day.

Fr Melwyn Joseph Pinto SJ, pro chancellor, St Aloysius (Deemed to be University) presided over the programme. Dr Praveen Martis SJ, vice-chancellor St Aloysius (Deemed to be University), registrar Dr Ronald Nazareth, St Aloysius (Deemed to be University), Dr Alwyn D’Sa, St Aloysius College (Autonomous), Fr Vishwas Misquith SJ, finance officer and Dr Rachael Natasha Mary, coordinator of the programme were on the dais.

The endowment lecture aims to inspire students to align their personal growth and academic journey with the broader goals of societal progress, ethical responsibility, and global impact.

Prof Anil Sahasrabuddhe in his address highlighted the importance of establishing digi locker system, APAAR, ABC account etc. for students to get their documents in quick and easy access.

He insisted the institution to hold students exchange programmes with interdisciplinary subjects for the benefit of the student community. As education is the powerful weapon in nation building, he suggested implementing several best practices in the institutions. To eradicate the severe crisis of environment, he suggested taking initiative in this regard. He also narrated the thought of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ and urged to adopt Advaita philosophy under the title of ‘Sarve janaha sukhino bhavanthu’.

He also told to adopt solar and wind energy to eradicate the environmental pollution.

Further, he elaborated the 17 SDGs implemented by the government of India and its uses for the people.

Prof Anil Sahasrabuddhe was honoured with a special felicitation in recognition of his significant contribution to education and national development.

The students were encouraged to think critically, pursue academic excellence, and develop the leadership qualities necessary to contribute to national development.

Following the endowment talk, professor Anil Sahasrabuddhe engaged with members of the staff council, including directors, deans, heads of departments, and chairs from the University.

In his address, Professor Sahasrabuddhe highlighted the importance of having a clear vision and personal strategy for career advancement. He underscored the necessity of fostering a collaborative spirit between faculty members and institutions to achieve collective success.

Professor Anil Sahasrabuddhe emphasised three crucial aspects within an institution: teaching, research, and administration. He advised that institutions should determine the relative importance of these components and allocate tasks to faculty members according to their strengths in each area. Evaluations of faculty performance should then be based on this allocation, ensuring that individuals are assessed in line with their contributions and expertise.

The interaction proved to be highly effective, with Professor Anil Sahasrabuddhe addressing a range of important topics. He fielded queries on the Indian knowledge system, the role of the education system in curriculum development, and the analysis of NIRF parameters, among other academic concerns. The session was both enriching and impactful, offering valuable insights and solutions.
