International Day of Democracy observed in Kundapur

Kundapur, Sep 15: Former MP and minister K Jayaprakash Hegde said, "Ambedkar entrusted us with the responsibility of upholding the democratic system along with the Constitution."

Hegde spoke after participating in the inauguration ceremony of a human chain programme held on the occasion of International Day of Democracy on Sunday, on NH 66 here.

Kundapur MLA A Kiran Kumar Kodgi said, "India is the biggest democracy in the world. It embraces all religions, castes, and creeds in a harmonious manner. It should be further strengthened under the democratic system."

Tahsildar Shobhalaxmi introduced the Constitution. Girl students from BCM hostel entertained the crowd with a group dance. In the stage programme, Kundapur AC Maheshchandra, Chief municipal officer Anandappa, town municipality president Mohan Das Shenoy, and other senior officials participated.

Saplings were planted along the highway by forest department personnel. Later, children from various schools and the public formed a large human chain along the highway, paying their respects to the democratic system of governance. Due to the formation of the human chain, traffic was restricted to one lane. The town municipality distributed sweets.
