Puttur, Sep 15: In a powerful display of solidarity and civic engagement, freedom, equality, and brotherhood, as the essence of democracy, St Philomena College, Puttur, observed "International Democracy Day" by organising a human chain event outside the college premises (NH 275).
Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, principal of the college, along with teaching faculty, administrative staff, and a large number of students participated in the event.
As part of the event, Dr Monteiro administered a "Democracy Day" oath, emphasising the importance of democracy, unity, and civic responsibility. The participants stood united as hundreds of students actively took part, representing various college bodies such as the National Cadet Corps (NCC), National Service Scheme (NSS), Rovers and Rangers, Youth Red Cross Society, and the Performing Arts Unit.
Vice-Principal Dr Vijayakumar Moleyar, Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) coordinator Dr Malini K, coordinators from various units also played a significant role, including NSS officers Dr Chandrashekhar K and Pushpa, Rovers and Rangers coordinators Khalander Shereef and Shreeraksha, Youth Red Cross Unit coordinator Dr Dimple J Fernandes, and administrative office head Rufina D’Souza were also present on the occasion.
