Mangaluru: Konkani Natak Sabha's 60th annual singing competition concludes with grand finale

Mangaluru, Sep 16: The highly anticipated grand finale of the 60th singing competition conducted by the Konkani Natak Sabha (KNS) was held on Sunday, September 15 from 10 am onwards at the Don Bosco Hall in a grandiose setting.

The program started with the singing of the KNS Anthem. President of KNS, Dr Rocky D'Cunha welcomed the competitors and the gathering. The competition was inaugurated with the lighting of the lamp by Santhosh Sequeira, a philanthropist and patron of Konkani Natak Sabha, and the guest for the inaugural ceremony along with renowned singer Asha Menezes, Bendur. Liston D'Souza, vice president of KNS, Floyd D'Mello, general secretary of KNS, Cletus Lobo, assistant secretary, Gerald Concessao, treasurer, singing competition conveners Joseph Theodore and Gladys Pereira were present on the dais.

The competitors performed with Track Singing. The grand finale was a contest among the top 5 competitors selected from second round of the competition. A total of 58 entries from 12 different categories with 150 plus participants ranging from 5 to 10 years, 10 to 15 years, 15 to 45 years, and above 45 years gave a tough competition in solo, duet, mixed group and married couple categories.

The judges panel comprised Fr. Ronson Pinto Asst Parish Priest of Shirva parish, Renowned Singer Ivan Sequeira, Mohachi Lahran Fame Vincent Fernandes Cascia, and Meera Florence Crasta.

The competition received valuable support from Danel Jaison and assistance from KNS Managing Committee members. Former vice-president of KNS, Sunil Menezes handled the computation of scores.

Melwyn Rodrigues, director-operations of Daijiworld Media Pvt Ltd & Convenor of Konkani Sahitya Academi, New Delhi, graced the occasion as the chief guest, accompanied by guests of honor Anil Lobo, Chairman of MCC Bank Ltd, Mohammad Iqbal, renowned singer, and Santhosh Sequeira, philanthropist.

Rodrigues reminisced about the nostalgic significance of the Don Bosco stage, highlighting the competition's 80-year history. He congratulated participants and commended KNS for nurturing new talent.

Anil Lobo praised KNS's mission and encouraged participants, emphasizing that "winning and losing is part of life, but participation is paramount. Opportunities refine and mold talents."

Fr Rocky D'Cunha, OFM Cap, thanked participants for their enthusiasm and lauded KNS leadership for their tireless efforts.

Liston D'Souza extended a warm welcome to dignitaries and attendees, while Floyd D'Mello Cascia, general secretary, rendered the vote of thanks. Cletus Lobo and Jerry Concesso, executive members, were present on the dais. Jeshma D'Souza expertly compared the event.

Notable guests, including Asha Menezes, Bendur Rony Crasta, Cordel, Sanjay Rodrigues, and Christopher Mascarenhas, presented finalist certificates to participants.

Charles D'Cunha from Mumbai, Sunita Soares from Mumbai, and Ivan Mascarenhas Bejai were honored for their leadership in securing maximum entries for this year's 60th singing competition.

Santhosh Sequeira Kankanady, Master Suhan Errol D'Silva Bondel, and Monica Valder Dubai generously sponsored the prizes.

Loy Rego and Gladys Pereira served as convenors of the singing competition, while Jossy Theodore introduced the judges. Daijiworld Media was the proud media partner for the event.
