Mangaluru, Sep 16: The staff of Mount Carmel Central School, Mangaluru, dressed in traditional Onam attire, enthusiastically celebrated Onam, one of Kerala’s most significant festivals in the school conference hall, presided by administrator Sr Carissima on September 14.
Teacher Reshma E warmly welcomed both teaching and non-teaching staff and emphasized the festival’s cherished values of togetherness and family spirit. The celebration kicked off with a lively performance of a traditional boat song in Malayalam performed by the teachers, followed by a mesmerizing Thiruvathira dance by the Keralite staff, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the festival.
Adding to the fun, a spontaneous fashion show competition saw non-Keralite teachers don the traditional Kasavu Saree. Tr Rita earned the coveted title of ‘Malayali Rani’ and Tr Swathi bagged the runner-up position for their graceful walk through the ramp that stole the show.
In her address, Sr Carissima, praised the efforts of the Keralite teachers in organising the celebration, applauding their dedication in bringing out the essence of the festival. She extended her heartfelt greetings to them, wishing God’s blessings of love and unity for their families as they continue the celebration with their loved ones.
Tr Vincy Thomas, who initiated and took the lead to organise the celebration, expressed deep gratitude to principal Sr Melissa for the opportunity to organise the event, to Sr Carissima for gracing the occasion and to all the staff for their enthusiastic participation.
The celebration concluded on a joyous note with sharing of Ada Pradhaman Payasam and other traditional Kerala delicacies.
Prior to this, during the celebration of nature festivals, the students too celebrated the spirit of Onam and along with their mentors prepared beautiful pookalams both at the nursery and primary campus.
