Mangaluru, Sep 18: A team of technical experts from Bengaluru inspected the Maravoor bridge on Tuesday as part of an assessment of bridges in the district deemed unsafe for traffic.
Vehicular movement on the Maravoor bridge has been restricted since June 14 due to damage to one of the pillars of the old bridge. The technical team, which had already inspected the Polali, Ulaiyibettu, and Balkunje bridges, conducted a detailed examination of the Maravoor bridge as well.
Using a large crane, the experts accessed the underside of the bridge and collected concrete samples from the pillars and girders to assess the bridge’s structural integrity. The team will submit their report to the deputy commissioner, who will then decide whether to reopen the bridge for traffic or initiate repairs, according to an official from the public works department.
