Udupi: Adani Foundation CSR inaugurates sanitary pads incinerator device

Udupi, Sep 18: Adani Power Limited – Udupi TPP, which is operating a power plant in Yellur village of Kaup taluk, Udupi district, under the banner of Adani Foundation, a CSR wing of Adani Group, inaugurated the newly installed sanitary pads incinerator device, worth Rs 15 lacs, at Padubidri village, near its panchayat office on Wednesday, September 18.

The sanitary pads incinerator device, which is installed under the Rural Infrastructure Development project, one among the CSR projects of Adani Foundation, as per the action plan submitted by Padubidri gram panchayat during the year 2023-24, was inaugurated by Kishore Alva, president & executive director of Adani Group and Shashikala, president of Padubidri gram panchayat.

Speaking on the occasion, Kishore Alva informed that ever since the Udupi power project has come under the management of Adani Group, it is continuously executing various social development works through Adani Foundation as a part of its CSR. Adani Group has declared a development grant of Rs 3 cr to Padubidri gram panchayat and the works are being taken-up in phase-wise manner year-on-year based on the action plans submitted by gram panchayat. Till date, the development works worth Rs 1.90 cr have been already completed and handed over to the panchayat, Alva added. He further informed that during the financial year 2023-24, Padubidri GP has submitted an action plan, highlighting the requirement of sanitary pads incinerator device, for safe environment in the villages and Adani Foundation has implemented the action plan by way of installing the incinerator device having the capacity of burning nearly 60 kgs of pads per hour

Informing the importance of such type of devices, Kishore Alva informed that the installation of sanitary pads incinerator devices in public places, schools and colleges can promote better sanitation and waste management. This will also help in avoiding environmental and health hazards caused by disposing of used sanitary napkins in open areas or disposing in an unhygienic manner. He welcomed the decision of Padubidri gram panchayat for giving priority for installation of sanitary pads incinerator. He expressed happiness that Padubidri GP, being one of the biggest panchayat in Kaup taluk, has witnessed the establishment of various industries in its vicinity and Padubidri has now transformed into a beautiful business center. Alva also added that Adani Group has selected Padubidri gram panchayat as its first preference for distribution of gas to each and every house under its City Gas Distribution project.

Later Shashikala, president of Padubidri GP, spoke and thanked Adani Group for its CSR activities. She informed that the panchayat members, based on the demand by the villagers, had requested the panchayat body to install a sanitary pad incinerator device in Padubidri town to protect the environmental hazardous. She also told that last year, Adani Group renovated a dilapidated public toilet in Padubidri town under CSR grants and today it has made contribution for public use.

Hemachandra Salian, vice president of Padubidri GP, Naveen Shetty, Ganesh Kotiyan, Shobha Shetty, Ashok Poojary, Rameez Hussain, Niyaz, Sunanda, Vidyashree, Jyothi Menon, Sandesh Shetty, Shaafi, Members of Padubidri GP, Ravi R Jere, associate general manager of Adani Power Limited and Anudeep, executive from Adani Foundation were present during the unveiling ceremony.
