Kochi, Nov 22: Noted Konkani writer, historian and activist, Purushottam Mallya, was honoured with the first ever Srimati Vimala V Pai Vishwa Konkani Lifetime Award, at a glittering function organized at Kochi on Sunday November 19. The award, sponsored by former Infosys Technologies director, philanthropist and visionary, T V Mohandas Pai, was presented by president of Vishwa Konkani Kendra Mangalore, Basti Vaman Shenoy. The award carries with it a citation and cash prize of one lac rupees.
On the occasion, scholarships amounting to about Rs 15 lac were handed over to over 80 students.
The function, held under the aegis of Vishwa Konkani Kendra, Mangalore and Anugraha Charitable Trust, was attended among others, by Ramdas Kamath U, chairman, Vishwa Konkani Student Scholarship Fund, Premchandra, chief general manager of BSNL, Kerala, P Bhaskar Shenoi, president, Anugraha Charitable Trust, and Venkatesh Baliga, secretary, Vishwa Konkani Kendra.
On this occasion, a children’s play in Konkani, titled ‘Patholi Rookh’ was presented by students hailing from Mangalore.
