Mangaluru, Sep 19: The junior engineer and chief officer of Kinnigoli town panchayat, were caught red-handed by Lokayukta police while accepting bribes from a contractor. The junior engineer Nagaraj was nabbed while receiving Rs 30,000, while the chief officer was caught accepting Rs 15,000.

The contractor, a PWD Class-1 contractor, had undertaken the development work of the S Kodi government lake under the jurisdiction of Kinnigoli town panchayat as part of the 15th Finance Scheme for the year 2022-23. When the contractor inquired about the approval of a bill amounting to Rs 9,77,154 for the work, junior engineer Nagaraj demanded a bribe of Rs 37,000 to pass the bill and also asked for an additional Rs 15,000 for the chief officer. Nagaraj had already taken an advance of Rs 7,000 from the contractor.

The Lokayukta police, acting on a complaint, set up a trap and apprehended the officials while accepting the bribe. The operation was carried out under the guidance of M A Nataraj, superintendent of police, Karnataka Lokayukta, Mangaluru, and was led by deputy superintendent of police Dr Gana P Kumar along with inspectors Amanulla A, Suresh Kumar P, Chandrashekhar K N, and Chandrashekhar C L.

Corruption is becoming like everyday Breakfast for Government Officials. Go to every Govt. Office and there are Sign Boards Reading Brokers and Agents are not allowed inside. But they push Citizens aside and enter the Office. In one incident a Broker asked Me to Vacate the Chair and let Him sit in front of Officer. Even the Officer did not confront the Broker when I asked the Officer about the Incident. Officer gets Kickback. I did not allow that Broker at all. I stand for these Crooked People. It is very troublesome for Common Citizens specially less Educated to Achieve their Documents

These are all samples...somewhere something has gone wrong that's why they are caught. Everyone in the cycle will be having share on this. There must be political willingness to stop all these. Corruption is injected into our system since independence.

Look at the Engineers and the officers?! We blame our Governments. As long as these unfit goons are in office, no country can improve. There are many more such people in power. We need to clean these thigs and hang them for ever, without trial.

Kujuma Sir..... not completely true what you said...... Corruption is widespread and more severe in some of the Countries, but it will not be disclosed like India because we Indians got more freedom than necessary that's why our Media is writing, reporting, broadcasting the way they want. You go to neighbouring Country Pak...... corruption is 100 times more than India..... but there people can't about Military Commanders or Majors

“This is an everyday story, but it’s good that the Lokayukta caught them red-handed. Almost every government office here takes bribes. I have personally experienced this; a small task of mine at the taluk office in Mangalore was delayed for a year because I didn’t pay a bribe. The same thing happens at the property card office. If you pay a bribe, your work gets done; otherwise, you’ll be dragged around for years. The MUDA office in Mangalore has the most cases of bribery.”
