Mangaluru, Sep 21: Integrated teaching approach paves the journey of the little children at the kindergarten section of Mount Carmel Central School, for effective learning. The LKG children learnt the shapes ‘Circle, Rectangle and Square’ through VAKT method.
The learner’s five senses were stimulated in the various activities like using straw to form shapes and the movement of the tiny hands on the rolling pin to form a circle, which led to generalisation of their learning.
Another group learnt numeracy using various methods and in literacy, letter ‘J’ was introduced with its sound coupled with different objects beginning with letter J, followed by writing of the number and letter using many methods like sand, air, floor and finally on the slate.
The UKG children interestingly were engaged in reading skills using different teaching aids. This supported the skill of reading simple sentences. The story ‘Peacock and the Crane’ which was narrated using many forms of learning, assisted the children’s comprehension. It was a joy to see and hear the children enact the story.
Under EVS, the concept of wellness was put across in a very creative and informative manner. The facilitator and children brought different fruits and the benefits of including fruits in one’s diet were well explained.
One can truly say the VAKT methodology is truly a joyful learning for the kindergarteners.
