Kasargod: Former Uduma MLA K P Kunhikannan passes away

Kasargod, Sep 26: Former Uduma MLA K P Kunhikannan passed away at a private hospital in Kannur at the age of 75. He was admitted to the hospital after being injured in an accident on September 4.

The accident occurred when the car Kunhikannan was traveling in hit a roadside divider near the Neeleshwara Karuvecchari petrol pump on NH, while trying to avoid a collision with a truck. Kunhikannan was returning to his residence in Payyanur after attending a program in Kanhangad.

Kunhikannan was elected as a Congress MLA from the Uduma legislative constituency in 1987. After Kasargod district was formed, he became the first district Congress president. He also served for many years as the KPCC chief secretary. Additionally, he held positions such as president of Kadannapalli Cooperative Bank, vice president of the district Congress committee, president of Payyanur College administrative committee, director of Kerafed, and chief secretary of Youth Congress.

Kunhikannan is survived by his wife, two children, and numerous admirers.
