Puttur: St Philomena College (Autonomous) appoints various officials

Puttur, Sep 30: St Philomena College, Puttur, has achieved a significant milestone by being granted autonomous status by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and Mangalore University, with approval from the Government of Karnataka. In light of this achievement, several faculty members have been appointed as Officers to streamline the academic and evaluation processes within the Institution.

Dr Norbert Mascarenhas, dean of Arts and Head of the Department of History, has been appointed as the registrar (Academics). Vinayachandra, dean and head of the Department of Computer Science, has been designated as the Registrar (Evaluation), and Dr Edwin S. D’Souza, Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry, has been appointed as the Finance Officer. Additionally, Mr Vipin Naik, Coordinator of the PG Department of Physics, has been appointed Deputy Registrar (Academics), while Johnson David Sequeira, Head of the Department of Sociology, and Abhishek Suvarna, assistant professor in the Department of Business Administration, have been appointed as deputy registrars (Evaluation). The appointments were made by the Catholic Board of Education, the College Management, based on the recommendations of the Correspondent and the Principal.

“This is a landmark year for St Philomena College. Securing autonomous status within just a few months of applying is a monumental achievement. This status not only reaffirms our commitment to providing quality education and serving society, but also highlights the dedication of the College to excellence, innovation, and the holistic development of our students”, remarked Very Rev. Fr Lawrence Mascarenhas, Correspondent of the College.

With the conferment of autonomy, the Institution now has the freedom to design and implement its own curriculum, enabling the inclusion of interdisciplinary subjects and the integration of modern technological advancements. “Autonomy also empowers us to establish our own academic and examination standards, ensuring that our courses remain relevant and cutting-edge” said rev Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, principal. He extended his heartfelt congratulations to the newly appointed officials and offered prayers for divine blessings to guide them in upholding the highest standards of professionalism and excellence in their roles.

The management, parent-teacher association, alumni association, staff, and students came together to congratulate the newly appointed officials and to wish them success in their new responsibilities.
