Puttur: St Philomena College (Autonomous) inaugurates consumer forum activities

Puttur Oct 2: The Consumer Forum of St Philomena College (Autonomous), inaugurated its activities for the academic year 2024-25 with a formal programme by unveiling of its plan of action on Saturday at the PG Seminar Hall of the College.

The chief guest, Prakash K, retired district judge and former president of the District Consumer Redressal Commission, shared his extensive expertise on the evolution of consumer protection laws in India. He highlighted the significance of consumer rights and the role of redressal commissions in ensuring fair treatment and justice for consumers.

Rayee Rajkumar, joint secretary of the Consumer Service Forum, Mangaluru, delivered an engaging address as the guest of honour. Drawing from his own experience of successfully asserting his consumer rights, he inspired the audience with the message, ‘Consumer is the King,’ encouraging students to be vigilant and proactive in safeguarding their rights.

In his presidential address, Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro expressed his appreciation for the outlined plan of action of Consumer Forum and urged its effective implementation. He also extended his gratitude to the guests for sharing their valuable insights and recommended organising workshops to provide students with hands-on knowledge of consumer protection.

The event commenced with a prayer led by Sahana and her team. Prathiksha of II BCom welcomed and Vismith of I BCom proposed the vote of thanks. Simran Taj compered the programme, with Priyanka, Bashil, Tanvir Pinto, and Likitha playing key roles in organising the event.
