Mangaluru: Lourdes Central School celebrates Gandhi Jayanti

Mangaluru, Oct 3: Lourdes Central School celebrated Gandhi Jayanti with great enthusiasm to honour the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, and Lal Bahadur Shastri on October 2. The event aimed to instil Gandhian values with the campaign 'Swabhav Swachhata Sanskaar Swachhata', the theme of Swachh Bharat Mission 2024.

The show stoppers of the day were the three members of Mangaluru City Corporation waste management department Jagdish, Santhosh, Ramesh who were invited and felicitated for their selfless service in keeping the city clean.

The celebration began with Sarva Dharma Prarthana by the students. A tribute to Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri was paid by the school principal Fr Johnson L Sequiera, vice principals Belita Mascarenhas and Anita Thomas, invited guests, and students, followed by a meaningful rendition by the teachers’ choir.

In the message, the principal Fr Johnson L Sequiera, highlighted the three values from the life of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri. He enlightened the students to imbibe honesty, cleanliness and non-violence in their day-to-day life.

A series of events were organized to commemorate Gandhi Jayanti in LCS:

• KG section observed Picture Colouring
• Class I and II participated in story telling
• Class III wrote slogans and meaningful quotes
• Class IV witnessed a quiz on the theme “Swachhata hi seva”
• Class V too participated in the quiz with the theme Swachhata hi seva
• Class VI and VII had debate competition
• Class VIII students wrote essays
• Class IX participated in making the human chain

On the day of Gandhi Jayanti, LCS cabinet ministers took an initiative of cleaning the school surroundings, under the guidance of Anita Thomas, the vice principal.

The other classes spent meaningful time in cleaning their classrooms, and watched inspirational videos based on the life of Mahatma Gandhi.

The programme ended with the vote of thanks by Sharmila Colaco. Preema D’Souza was the master of ceremony.
